Some thoughts about the Passage:

Notice all of the commands are present active tense verbs, meaning that we are to be in the constant state of, or continually in the process of whatever is mentioned, in this case reading, hearing, and keeping. Also, notice that the tense of the word for “the one who reads” is singular while “the hearing” and “the keeping” are both plural,  indicating that this could be describing a preaching/teaching event where a single person reads and teaches and the congregation hears and keeps. We do not know what the blessings are for reading, hearing, and keeping but just that there is a blessing for doing so.

Since we know that this principle can be applied to all of Scripture here are a couple of questions to ask yourself today that I am asking myself:

– Am I putting myself in a position to be blessed?
– Am I in the habit of reading the Word myself or having it taught to me so that I know it accurately and comprehend what it says?
– Am I hearing the Word so as to learn and understand what it means?
– Am I actively keeping the Word or guarding the Word in how I live?

Admittedly, these are difficult questions for anyone but you should be able to see some of this happening in your life right now, not perfection but at least some hills among the valleys. If you see no such fruit then run to Christ and seek His help. Do it today! Start reading the word so as to know it, start hearing the word to as to understand it, and start keeping the Word today, and you will be blessed!
