Speaking of God (Yahweh, Jehovah, Adonai, Elohim) Isaiah under the inspiration of the same God writes the following:

He will swallow up death forever;
and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces,
and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth,
for the LORD has spoken.
It will be said on that day,
“Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us.
This is the LORD; we have waited for him;
let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”
(Isaiah 25:8-9 ESV)

God will do the following:

  1. Swallow up death forever
  2. will wipe away tears from all faces
  3. the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth

Jesus did the following:

  1. Swallowed up death and removed its sting (1 Corinthians 15:54-57 ESV)
  2. Is involved with the wiping away of tears (Revelation 7:17, 21:4 ESV)
  3. Took our reproach on Himself so we wouldn’t have to bear it ourselves (Hebrews 13:13, 1 Peter 2:24, Romans 4:25)

Notice the logic here as we have earlier in Isaiah:

Premise #1 God will do X

Premise #2 Jesus did X

Conclusion: Jesus is God
